Founded in 1997, San Diego Hua Xia Chinese School (SDHXCS) is a nonprofit, secular, and apolitical educational organization with 501(c)(3) status.  The school is the first local Chinese language school that teaches simplified Chinese and Pinyin (Chinese phonetic). 

          Our mission is to provide a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for students to acquire skills of comprehension, communication, reading and writing in Mandarin Chinese,to instill an awareness of the Chinese heritage, creating programs to introduce Chinese culture to the community, and to promote mutual understanding between different ethnic groups. 

          Our school grow rapidly since very beginning. With enrollment over 1,100 each school year, SDHXCS has become the largest Chinese language educational organization in San Diego.  Five programs (Bilingual, Regular, Credit, AP Chinese, and Enrichment) offer 60 Chinese classes and over 30 enrichment classes to meet the needs of our students with different levels of proficiency and interests.

          In 2003, SDHXCS's Credit Program (Level I through Level IV) was born. The program is widely accredited by local school districts. In 2006, AP Chinese course was added. The course is approved by and registered with College Board. The programs are fully accredited by ASC WACS (Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Colleges and Schools).

Dear Hua Xia Families,
 
"Ring! Ring!" Holidays are finally here! School will be off for the following 2 weeks, December 21 and 28,  and will resume on January 4.
 
1) Contest on the Chinese Cultural Knowledge took place in Octoberwith total of 20 students signed up, 12 actually attended, 2 out of 12 are among the overall top 3 "Excellent" selected to participate in the finals in China (they are not Hua Xia members), and 3 will receive a certificate of "合格“。What a wonderful result! This is our first time, and I hope to see more students participate in the contest next year! 
 
Congratulations to Emily Hou 侯佳茵 (AP2), Frank Sun 孙雨喆 (newly AP grad), Wesley Zhang 张童童!
 
2) Passport pick up at 12 noon.  Be sure to come on time!!!
 
3) Mark your calendar, CNY is officially moved to February 8 February 22 will be a regular school day. See revised calendar.

5) For those classes who plan to have a party this week, please make sure rooms are cleaned and tidied up afterwards. No food or food containers left in the classrooms.

Greetings, Hua Xia Families!
 
Welcome to 2015!  I'm sure you all enjoyed the holidays, many of you have been traveling during the break, some are still on the way back to home. I encourage students to write about an activity or an event that you had experienced during the break, and submit your article to "Youth of We Chinese American".  
 
School resumes on January 4 at regular hour:  
 
1) Room parent's meeting on Sunday, January 4, PTA room, 10am - 11am, for both AM and PM classes! Topic: CNY festival. Things you must know! 
    Due to the length and details of the meeting, we will just have one session. Do not miss it! PM classes' room parent, please be sure to attend this morning meeting, especially if you are new as a room parent. 
 
2) Visa service, 1/4, 10 am - 2 pm, in the office. 
 
3) Interested to be a host family for a 10th grade girl from Shanghai? She plans to attend a high school here for one semester. She can tutor your child's Chinese! and your child is invited to her house in Shanghai for summer!

We are only 3 weeks away from Hua Xia CNY Festival! 
 
1) Raffle ticket pre-sale begins this Sunday in the office. $1 each, every $20 purchase will earn a chance to win a prize at the event,                 plus Pre-sale special, an extra $1 with every $20 purchase! 
 
    Buy now so you don't have to wait in line on the day! Laser Tag costs $5 per game, so you may need a lot!  
 
2) Join the Drum team for CNY Festival Opening! No experience needed.  Can be easily learned in one practice. Age 7 - 87. Rehearsal on      Sunday 12:00 noon - 1:30 pm!  Contact the team leader:   This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

This week is the beginning of the second semester, only 4 weeks away from our annual CNY Festival! 


 
1) We had a Room parent's meeting last Sunday regarding CNY, about half of the total attended, the other half may have reasons unable to come. We may have another session depending on the demand. Please contact us if you would like to come to the meeting. Topic:  CNY Festival.
