Founded in 1997, San Diego Hua Xia Chinese School (SDHXCS) is a nonprofit, secular, and apolitical educational organization with 501(c)(3) status.  The school is the first local Chinese language school that teaches simplified Chinese and Pinyin (Chinese phonetic). 

          Our mission is to provide a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for students to acquire skills of comprehension, communication, reading and writing in Mandarin Chinese,to instill an awareness of the Chinese heritage, creating programs to introduce Chinese culture to the community, and to promote mutual understanding between different ethnic groups. 

          Our school grow rapidly since very beginning. With enrollment over 1,100 each school year, SDHXCS has become the largest Chinese language educational organization in San Diego.  Five programs (Bilingual, Regular, Credit, AP Chinese, and Enrichment) offer 60 Chinese classes and over 30 enrichment classes to meet the needs of our students with different levels of proficiency and interests.

          In 2003, SDHXCS's Credit Program (Level I through Level IV) was born. The program is widely accredited by local school districts. In 2006, AP Chinese course was added. The course is approved by and registered with College Board. The programs are fully accredited by ASC WACS (Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Colleges and Schools).

Here are the notes for the coming weeks:

  • Many thanks to our IT team! With their days and nights of hard work, the new school registration website will be ready and open for 2021-22 school year registration from 4/25 (next Sunday). PTA is calling for an information session to discuss the registration details. All the room-parent representatives are required to attend the meeting on 4/24 (next Saturday) 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Zoom ID: 719 705 0195, no passcode. Anyone interested is welcome to join us.
  • The school office will open on 4/24 (Saturday) from 10:30 am – 2:00 pm on the parking lot at 7920 Arjons Drive, Suite H, San Diego, CA 92126. If you are a winner of the Regular/Bilingual program Reading contest or Credit program Speech contest, you need to come onsite to pick up your trophy. If you can't make it on the day, please arrange with other parents to pick up your trophy. Otherwise, you may have to wait until late May to meet us.
  • The 4th Global Chinese Reading Contest – US Division(第四届全球华语朗诵大赛美国赛区比赛)is organized by Chinese School Association in the United States (CSAUS,全美中文学校协会). Our school, being the largest Chinese school in the Southern California, co-organize the contest in the Southern California area.  The contest is open to all interested students between 3 to 18 years old. The registration and video upload are due by 4/25. You will find more details about the contest and registration in the attached flyer. The contest isn't limited to Chinese school students only, so please share the flyer to your friends whoever are interested to the contest. This Sunday is Monday's day. Wish all the moms have a wonderful Mother's Day. Don't forget to order a bouquet for yourself, for your mom, and/or for your child's mom!

Here are the notes for the coming weeks:

  • SDHXCS 2021-22 registration is open. Please keep it in mind that $50 registration fee can only be waived for the current students whose registration is completed before 5/16. Some parents had issues during the registration process due to the ongoing website upgrade project, so please make sure read the enrollment guidance and follow the instructions step-by-step.   • It is appreciated if you can participate our parent survey regarding this year's online classes. It depends on the overall pandemic and Miramar College campus re-open policy. We will share the decision once we hear a definite answer. Thanks for your patience.
  • For the service deposits that haven't been refunded due to limited PTA jobs, the office will schedule a time to do so in late August.
  • SDHXCS AP Class 2021 online graduation ceremony is scheduled on 5/23 (Sunday) at 10:00 am. Due to limited online event seating, only AP class students and parents are invited. If you aren't invited but want to attend, please send me an email and we will put you on a waiting list.
  • Because of the COVID-19, we won't be able to host the annual teacher appreciation banquet. Like last year, we will be hosting an online teacher appreciation conference on 5/23 (Sunday) at 2:30 pm. All the teachers and room-parent representatives (one per class) are invited to attend. Please mark your calendar and ask your teacher how to reserve your spot.
  • If you are a teaching assistant (TA) at SDHXCS, please ensure to submit your monthly TA time to your teacher and to the school office for approval.

Time flies. Can't believe this is the last weekly-news for the school year 2020-21. I want to thank all our teachers, staff, and parents being so patient and supportive during the distance learning mode. Everyone did an awesome job, and I am so proud of you!
