Founded in 1997, San Diego Hua Xia Chinese School (SDHXCS) is a nonprofit, secular, and apolitical educational organization with 501(c)(3) status.  The school is the first local Chinese language school that teaches simplified Chinese and Pinyin (Chinese phonetic). 

          Our mission is to provide a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for students to acquire skills of comprehension, communication, reading and writing in Mandarin Chinese,to instill an awareness of the Chinese heritage, creating programs to introduce Chinese culture to the community, and to promote mutual understanding between different ethnic groups. 

          Our school grow rapidly since very beginning. With enrollment over 1,100 each school year, SDHXCS has become the largest Chinese language educational organization in San Diego.  Five programs (Bilingual, Regular, Credit, AP Chinese, and Enrichment) offer 60 Chinese classes and over 30 enrichment classes to meet the needs of our students with different levels of proficiency and interests.

          In 2003, SDHXCS's Credit Program (Level I through Level IV) was born. The program is widely accredited by local school districts. In 2006, AP Chinese course was added. The course is approved by and registered with College Board. The programs are fully accredited by ASC WACS (Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Colleges and Schools).

Dear Hua Xia Families, 
 
 
1) Credit Program Placement test for non Hua Xia Students is next Sunday 5/8, 12 noon - 1:15 pm, at I-101A .  Students who are entering 7th grade at public schools in year 2016-2017, and wish to take credit class are highly recommended to take the test . (Students who are already in credit class do NOT need to take the test).
 
    Requirement for All testers:  a) parent's email and phone number; b) school name and district in 2016_17; c) grade level in 2016_17 in your school; d) receipt for tuition payment of 2016-2017; e) for current Hua Xia students, Class ID and Chinese teacher's name . 
 
2) Parent Service Deposit refund for Credit class continues this week and 5/15 by the office,  10:00 am - 12 noon,  and1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. 5/15 will be the last day for refund.  Please come on time. Parents who pick up the refund for others must present a valid ID.
 
 
3) Registration for year 2016-2017 continues.  Current students, Please keep in mind, you must complete registration before 5/14 midnight (online payment) to avoid the registration fee.  Enrollment Instructions is attached here for your convenience. Room parents need to submit all collected tuition/forms (if any) on 5/15, the last day.

Mark your calendar, and we will update you as soon as the calendar finalizes. Dear Hua Xia Families, 
 
This is the final week for 2015-2016 school year! It is also the Teacher Appreciation Week, an opportunity to thank our teachers that help motivate and encourage our children in learning Chinese language and culture.  Let me be one of the first to share my sincere gratitude for the work done by our teachers, and for all of our families for supporting your children.  
 
Last few things for end of school year:

    Following the Ceremony is the prize winning performance by Xingjian Dance Troupe. This dance troupe was recently featured in American     Got Talent show.  I hope you enjoy it.

I am glad to see so many of you returned to school last Sunday, and many new students have joined us! I'm sure we will have a wonderful year.
 
Here are the news for this week:

1) ENRICHMENT CLASS begins this week, Sept. 18. Course schedule and video intro are available for you to view on school website. Each class has limited seats, and it is first come first served.
 
In order to attend enrichment class without delay, you must complete online enrichment class registration before 9/18. No refund, prorate, or change once 1st class meet begins.

     2 sessions:  9:45 am-10:45 am;     1:45 pm-2:45 pm.
 
3) Ivy Review college prep consulting is coming back! Oct. 9, L-105. 2 session: 9:45-11:45,  1:45-3:45. Details will follow.
 
4) Safety is our #1 issue. Please drive slowly and carefully on campus (15mph ), pay close attention to the pedestrians.
 
5) Parent service is a very important part of the school operation. It requires all parents involvement. Please refer to the attached SafetyPatrol Duties and SafetyPatrol Checklist to understand what is expected from parents on duty. Parents should not come and unaware what your responsibilities are. 

6) Next VISA SERVICE is on October 2,  10 am - 2 pm, in the office.
 
7) Drag team 舞龙队 and drum team 腰鼓队 are recruiting! CNY festival is schedule for January 15. It's fun and unique. Come and join us! For parents, it can be counted toward your service as well. Good morning, Hua Xia families,

I am very excited to welcome all of you back to San Diego Hua Xia Chinese School !  2016-2017 school year begins on this coming Sunday, September 11. I hope you are all well-rested and prepared, and ready for the big day!
 
Here are some notes for the 1st school day:

1) By Now, all students and parents should have received a welcome letter from your teacher, informing you the grade level, class ID, classroom number, class schedules, as well as instructions for the first day.You may also find out this information by logon to your student account using student's username and password. Forgotten password can be easily retrieved online.

2) If you haven't registered, I strongly recommend you to complete the online registration at home to avoid long waiting line in the office. All information can be found on school website. 3) Safety. Opening day is always busy and exciting. Safety is our #1 issue. Please arrive a little earlier than normal days, drive slowly and carefully on campus (15mph ), pay close attention to the pedestrians.

4) Finding your classroom. Please refer to the campus map to locate these highlighted buildings: H (Regular classes), S5 (Credit classes), I (2 credit classes and BL2-2). You may also ask our safety patrols (wearing orange vest).
 
   Student list will also be posted in the hallway of H building (for Regular classes), and on the wall of S5 building for your convenience.
 
5) Office is located in F-209. Dance studio is in J-2 (start from 9/18).

6) Parking. You may use student Lot 1, Lot 2, and Lot 3. Please Do Not park in the Reserved or Handy Caped space unless you have a permit.  Do Not park in the small parking lot in front of the office for however quick is of your stop. Absolutely No Parking on the road side. Campus Police can issue violation tickets just as anywhere else.

7) Drop off. Pull forward as much as you can to drop off, and leave as quickly as possible to reduce traffic jam. Be courteous to others as you would like others to you. Never drop off students in the middle of the street. 

8) Mandatory parent meeting in class at the beginning of the 1st period. Meet your teachers, understand regulations and expectations, and submit required paper works (credit class).
 
9) Textbook are available for purchase in the classroom during the 1st period. Remember to bring a check.

10) Enrichment class begins in the 2nd week, Sept. 18. Course schedule and video intro are available on our website. Each class may have limited seats, and it is first come first served.

11) Visa service. If you used our service on 8/28, please come and pick up your passport in the office at 12 noon. Next visa service day is on October 2.
 
12) Parent service starts day 1. It is a very important part of the school operation. Service schedules is arranged by VP Tina Zhang, and channeled to parents via room parents or teachers. Please refer to the attached Safety Patrol Duty and Safety Patrol Checklist, they help you understand what is expected for the service. 
 
13) Are you interested in English Writing, Reading and Speaking? Join Dr. Joe on 9/18 for an introduction, in PTA room.
     2 sessions:  9:45 am-10:45 am;     1:45 pm-2:45 pm. 
 
In order to help your children attain their goal of study Chinese, it is very important that parents volunteer at Hua Xia. Be involved ! Stay informed through school website and your teacher's webpage.

1) Everybody should understand and establish a Living Trust & Estate Planning, for yourself and for your children. Come to a workshop this Sunday, 9/25, at 10 am - 11 am, in PTA room (F-209).

2) How are we parenting? Do we really understand what is the best for our children? Highly recommend all parents to enjoy a comedy Tiger Style at La Jolla Playhouse. The play writer Mike Lew, a former La Jolla High student and a Howard graduate, wants to tell the audience the reality.
