Founded in 1997, San Diego Hua Xia Chinese School (SDHXCS) is a nonprofit, secular, and apolitical educational organization with 501(c)(3) status. The school is the first local Chinese language school that teaches simplified Chinese and Pinyin (Chinese phonetic).
Our mission is to provide a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for students to acquire skills of comprehension, communication, reading and writing in Mandarin Chinese,to instill an awareness of the Chinese heritage, creating programs to introduce Chinese culture to the community, and to promote mutual understanding between different ethnic groups.
Our school grow rapidly since very beginning. With enrollment over 1,100 each school year, SDHXCS has become the largest Chinese language educational organization in San Diego. Five programs (Bilingual, Regular, Credit, AP Chinese, and Enrichment) offer 60 Chinese classes and over 30 enrichment classes to meet the needs of our students with different levels of proficiency and interests.
In 2003, SDHXCS's Credit Program (Level I through Level IV) was born. The program is widely accredited by local school districts. In 2006, AP Chinese course was added. The course is approved by and registered with College Board. The programs are fully accredited by ASC WACS (Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Colleges and Schools).

Dear Hua Xia Families,
Only one week to go before Hua Xia Chinese New Year Festival ! I'm calling on all our students and parents to come and celebrate together this traditional Chinese holiday. It is a day of fun, and you don't want to miss it !!
1) Room parents, if you would like to add games or booth you still have time. Please send in your request no later than this Sunday to help us finalize the plan.
2) Pre-sale tickets! As usual, CNY Festival is a no-cash event, raffle tickets take place as "currency", $1 each, for food, games and merchandise. To avoid waiting in long line at the event, you can take the advantage of purchasing the tickets ahead of time in the office this Sunday 1/17 and next Sunday 1/24. Pre-sale incentive: for each $20, you get an extra $1, plus a chance to win a prize! Don't miss it !!
3) Dragon Team 舞龙队 need you! Dragon is the icon of Hua Xia CNY Festival, it is the most loved and eye-catching activity at the event. You want to be part of it !! One practice only, in the morning of the event.

4) Stage performances, group or solo, are very welcomed and encouraged. Talented students, it's your time!

7) Parent survey. In order to better understand students' need and serve our community, PTA is hosting a survey. Your opinion is valued! Due to the weather changes, Hua Xia Chinese New Year Festival is postponed to February 14, same time same location.
I apologize for any inconvenience it causes. Hope we can have a sunny day on 2/14.
Thanks to all of you who have been busy preparing for the event. Let's keep the spirit high, continue the good work and be better prepared for February 14 ! For the classes under prepared for this event, you have more time now and can do better on February 14 !

Weekly Reminder 2016-02-14
Finally, 2016 Hua Xia Chinese New Year Festival is here! On a very sunny day!
2) Students must arrive at the field by 9 am. Wait at the game area by the sign that indicate your grade level, i.e. CH1-2, CR3-1, etc.. Your Room Parent will meet you there. If you participate in games, this is also the place your team leader find you.
3) Parking around the field is very limited and should be saved for parents who need load and unload supplies. Most of us should park at the main parking lot from the Black Mountain Road entrance.
4) Room Parents, if you host a booth, arrive no later than 8:30 to unload your supplies and set up your booth. Customers come early. A pull wagon is good for moving your goods.
5) Dragon Team 舞龙队 must arrive at 7:00, as directed by the team leader.
6) Performers, check the attached Program for timing. Report to the stage 10 minutes ahead of time.
7) Regular Program Penmanship Contest Award Ceremony begins at 12:30. All winners should report to the stage at 12 noon.
8) Food Allergy! Students and Parents, if you have any kind of food allergy, PLEASE DO NOT BUY ANY FOOD AT THE FESTIVAL.
9) Urgent Care is located at Hua Xia booth #45, near the stage.
10) Please find attached Hourglass Field map and Site Layout to locate your class booths. Your room parents should notify you the booth number.
It is going to be a warm and sunny day. Light clothes, a hat and sun lotion is recommended. Drink a lot of water!
Students and parents, come and celebrate the Chinese New Year in Hua Xia way and Fun way ! We will Rock!!

Dear Hua Xia Families,
What a fun day we had last Sunday! Although the date wasn't the most convenient, majority of the students and parents were able to participate and enjoyed the authentic food, the amazing arts & crafts, the exciting games as well as our traditional dragon, drum, and lions. Cash flow of the day is about $10,000! Many parents, staffs and students had been working hard preparing for this day, some even got their extended families and friends involved !
On behalf of the school Administration, I want to thank you all for making this event another success! Wishing you all a very happy and prosperous new year!

Now, for this week:

2) Room Parents, if you have handed in your collection of raffle tickets from CNY Festival, you may come to redeem it on next Sunday, 2/28. If you haven't submitted, you may send it to the office on this Sunday.

4) HOC Essay Contest. All students are highly encouraged to participate in the annual contest. Application is attached here again.
